Where does Plymouth Original gin come from?
Plymouth Gin is an appellation d’origine contrôlée reserved for a certain type of gin that can only be produced in the city of Plymouth which itself is located in the south of England.
How is this gin made?
“To balance the bitterness of the aromatic plants, we choose the sweetness of oranges from southern Spain rather than the more straightforward Seville oranges. We’re also one of the few distilleries to use a hint of cardamom for its full-bodied fragrances that are at once sweet, spicy and floral.” Sean Harrison, Master Distiller of Plymouth Gin since 1994. Made from a selection of 7 fruits and aromatic plants (juniper, lemon and orange peel, iris and angelica root, cardamom pod and coriander seed), Plymouth Gin’s rich, creamy aroma is revealed by the unique copper still and fresh water of Devon (Dartmoor National Park).
That’s why it’s so popular!
Plymouth Gin Original can be drunk neat, over ice or in cocktails. Plymouth Gin’s smooth, complex palate has earned it recognition from bartenders around the world as THE go-to gin for the original “Dry Martini” cocktail recipe. (Savoy Cocktail Book, 1896)
